Tissue-Tek 2 Tissue Embedding Center is a compact, durable and virtually trouble free piece of equipment. It operates on a standard 115 volt, 60 cycle, alternating current. It consists basically of a paraffin storage pot and dispenser, control panel, warming caddy for base molds, working platform with hot and cold spots for orientation, chiller plate, cool storage drawer and a waste drawer for collecting excess paraffin from the working platform. Electrical outlets on the rear of the unit can be used for related or accessory equipment.
Projection from the front of the Tissue Embedding Center is a raised working platform which is divided into two sections to provide heated and cooled working surfaces to aid in tissue orientation. The right hand side of the platform is warmed so that proper temperature of specimen and cassette is maintained while the base mold is being filled with paraffin. To the left are hot and cold plates which are used during embedding procedure to precisely orient tissue specimens within base molds. Excess paraffin is channeled into the grooves on the surface of the working platform and allowed to drain off into the waste collection drawer located beneath the platform.
